Flock Together

We’ve lived in our townhouse a little over 3 years now. It has some beautiful woods nearby (yay!) and sits on a flood plain (insert sarcastic “yay” here). But that also means wetlands nearby. So we have birds practically coming out our ears. (we also had loads of wildlife but in the past year they’ve gone, because now stray cats hang about. I’m okay with this.)

The book shown above is GREAT. Lots of good pictures, lots of great descriptions of color, behavior, and sounds. So I’ve started notating all the birds we’ve seen and heard. My 5 year old also LOVES to identify birds wherevere we are. So, without further ado, here’s the list of all the birds I’ve identified in the Ewuakye Backyard Bird Sanctuary! (EBBS)

*Barred Owl (heard only)
*White-breasted Nuthatch
*Red-bellied Woodpecker
*Northern Flicker (Woodpecker)
*Tufted Titmouse
*Mourning Dove
*Eastern Towhee
*Chipping Sparrow
*Field Sparrow
*Dark-eyed Junco
*American Crow (so many, I think they actually are coming out our ears)
*Carolina Chickadee
*House Finch
*Northern Cardinal
*Louisiana Waterthrush
*American Robin
*Ruby-throated hummingbird

(I feel like I’m pretty good at taking pictures with my phone but when it comes to birds, psh, nothin’ doin’).

So tell me… what birds/wildlife do you see nearby?
